BUILDING RAPPORT IN CHILD WELFARE AND COURT-INVOLVED SYSTEMS

Join us for an interactive training led by foster youth and TCA Ambassador, Lily Couts, who brings a powerful, lived perspective on creating trust and meaningful connections within child welfare and court-involved environments. This session will cover practical strategies for engaging youth and families, fostering collaboration, and navigating systemic challenges with empathy and respect.

Following the presentation, we’ll host a Q&A session with the TCA Team, giving you the opportunity to ask tough questions and brainstorm solutions for the youth you work with.

Learning Objectives will include:

  • Understand the importance of rapport-building in child welfare and court-involved systems.
  • Identify barriers to trust and engagement for youth and families.
  • Apply practical strategies to foster collaboration and empathy in challenging environments.
  • Explore real-world examples and solutions through interactive discussion and Q&A.

SAFETY PLANNING AND HARM REDUCTION WITH CSEC YOUTH

Frontline workers are often the first to hold space for CSEC youth navigating trauma, survival, and systems that don’t always feel safe. This session is designed to support you in having real, grounded conversations about safety and harm—without judgment, false promises, or pressure to “fix.”

Together, we’ll explore:

•  How to open up space for honest, youth-led dialogue

•  Harm reduction strategies that meet youth where they are

•  Collaborative safety planning that centers autonomy and lived experience

•  Techniques for identifying risk without escalating fear or control

•  Ways to balance immediate safety with long-term healing and hope

You’ll leave with practical tools, adaptable language, and renewed confidence to engage youth in ways that are trauma-informed, relationship-driven, and rooted in dignity. Because when youth feel seen, heard, and empowered—they begin to believe in their own safety, too.
